1. Fold the scarf into a triangle.
2. Place the headscarf flatly on a solid surface (such as a table). Smooth out any bunches or wrinkles in the fabric. Place the two opposite corners of the bandana together to create a triangle.
3. Place the headscarf on your head. Smooth your hair so it doesn’t stick out or get bunched underneath. Pick up the folded headscarf with the triangular points facing up. Place the flat edge of the hijab on or near your forehead or hairline. Tie the two corners together. Wrap the two corners of the bandana around your head, meeting at the back. Keep the edges of the bandana above your ears. Tie the two ends together with a square knot.
4. Tuck it into the corner of the headscarf. Tuck the loose corners of the bandana into the area where the knot will be tied. This will help prevent the bandana from exploding or falling apart. Smooth out any strands that may be sticking out. Fix your hair. Before putting on the hijab, secure your hair so that it appears to be underneath the headband. Adjusting the hair later may cause the hijab to become restrictive or shift.
5. Fold the scarf into a headband. Lay the bandana flat on a solid surface. Repeatedly fold the bandana in 2-inch (about 5 cm) increments. Continue folding until the bandana is a long strip. Spray the headband with hairspray. To ensure the headband stays in place, spray it with hairspray before putting it on. Place the folded bandana face down (inside side up with the triangular point of the folded material). Spray from the center of the headband toward the ends. Place and fasten the headband.
6. Place the folded headscarf at or near the hairline, depending on whether you want to show any hair. Grab one end of the bandana, pull it under your hair, and tie it at the base of your neck. Tie the headband upward. Another way to wear a headband is to place the middle of the strip at the root of your head, just below your hair. Pull the ends of the bandana up and over your head, close to your ears, and to the crown of your head (just above your hairline). Tie a square knot to secure the headband. Secure headband.
