One day, two textile bosses encountered a problem – what should they do in the face of an environmental “hurricane”?
The boss whose mind is dominated by the devil said: “The environment has nothing to do with me, only making money is important!”
The boss who is dominated by angels said: “Everyone has the responsibility to respond to the call for environmental protection!”
When people face choices, they are like standing at a crossroads. If you go right, you will be an angel, if you go wrong, you will be a devil…
In real life, there are two such “textile bosses”, one chooses to be an “angel” and the other chooses to be a “devil”.
Case 1: A textile company in Shaoxing artificially diluted sewage and falsified automatic monitoring data, and 8 people were arrested
On March 2, 2017, Shaoxing municipal and district environmental protection departments and the public security department conducted a joint law enforcement inspection of Shaoxing Shengrong Textile Printing and Dyeing Co., Ltd. The inspection found that the company bypassed online monitoring through external discharge pipes and directly discharged untreated wastewater in the regulating tank into the sewage pipe network. It also diluted the sewage in the sewage external discharge tank to create the illusion that the online monitoring data met the standards.
Case 2: Huafeng Spandex issued an announcement on the elimination of 6,000t/a spandex production capacity
On April 26, Huafeng Spandex issued an announcement on the elimination of 6,000t/a spandex production capacity. The announcement shows that in recent years, technological progress in the industry has accelerated. This production capacity has been built for more than 10 years. The production efficiency is low, the cost of clean production is high, and it is no longer able to adapt to the development trend of the industry. In order to respond to the call for environmental protection, optimize resource allocation, save energy and reduce consumption, we decided to phase out 6,000t/a spandex production capacity and plan to gradually shut down before the end of December 2017.
Judging from the appearance alone, we would all blame the Shaoxing textile company for falsifying data and polluting the environment, and praise Huafeng Spandex, which vigorously responds to the call for environmental protection. But have we compared the economic gap between the two companies?
We all know that the textile industry is a high-pollution, high-energy-consuming industry. It also faces multiple development problems such as environmental constraints and resource dependence. Today, with high pressure on environmental protection, many small and medium-sized enterprises are “forced” to embark on the road of transformation. The high environmental protection costs are even more prohibitive for them. Some even have no choice but to choose evil ways. However, large enterprises have sufficient funds, developed technology and advanced equipment to transform. For them it’s just natural.
Under the high pressure of environmental protection, life of small and medium-sized enterprises is very “suffering”!
A coating factory owner in Shengze told the author: “Recently, due to environmental protection, we have to turn on the electricity every five days, which has caused a lot of our work to be put on hold. For an enterprise like ours that is already meager, it is simply adding insult to injury. !”
Another weaving boss who has been engaged in weaving for more than ten years lamented to the author: “Environmental protection is indeed a top priority, but it cannot be one size fits all. We should be given a certain amount of time to make rectifications, because upgrading equipment requires a lot of funds. For us small and medium-sized enterprises, There is a lot of pressure, and we also hope that the country can provide us with more financial and policy support so that we can achieve a win-win situation.”
Textile companies that “go green” burn money but are more profitable!
To give a few examples: Lufeng Weaving and Dyeing Co., Ltd.’s foam finishing technology can reduce natural gas drying energy consumption by 40%, water consumption by 50%, and dyeing materials and auxiliaries by 30%. Although a set of digital printing technology and equipment newly adopted by Zhejiang Wanshili Group costs up to 600,000 euros, the work efficiency has increased by more than 30 times than before.
Therefore, the author believes that improving technology will not only reduce emissions, but also save a lot of costs for enterprises. In the long run, the pain will be temporary, but for some small and medium-sized enterprises with limited capabilities, it will still take some time to adapt.
