2021 marks the 20th anniversary of China’s accession to the World Trade Organization. Over the past year, China’s economy has continued to recover, its epidemic prevention and control has remained a global leader, and its long-term positive fundamentals have provided strong support for stabilizing foreign trade. For the whole of 2021, my country’s import and export volume of goods exceeded US$6 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 30%, and the scale of trade reached a new level.

According to the statistical bulletin of the General Administration of Customs, the country’s textile and clothing exports from January to December 2021 were US$315.47 billion (this caliber does not include Chapter 94 mattresses, sleeping bags and other bedding), a year-on-year increase of 8.4% (a year-on-year increase of 0.9% in RMB), It will continue to grow steadily on a high trade base in 2020, reaching a historic high.

Among them, due to the high export base of anti-epidemic materials in 2020, my country’s textile exports for the whole year were US$145.20 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 5.6% (a year-on-year decrease of 12.2% in RMB), but an increase of 22.0% compared with the same period in 2019. From the perspective of major product categories, exports of textile yarns, fabrics, and textile products other than masks (including home textiles, industrial textiles, etc.) have all achieved rapid growth, with a year-on-year growth rate of 30%-40%. Only epidemic prevention masks are exported. Due to the decline in unit prices, there was a significant downward trend.

At the same time, supported by factors such as the rebound in overseas consumer demand and the return of some orders, clothing exports for the whole year were US$170.26 billion, a year-on-year increase of 24.0% (a year-on-year increase of 15.6% in RMB), an increase of 16.0% compared with the same period before the epidemic (2019). The best level since 2015. In particular, clothing exports to the US and European markets have increased by about 20%-30% year-on-year. Clothing exports to ASEAN, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada and other countries and regions have also increased, and the scale has exceeded the pre-epidemic level.
